Software is starting to drop support for Windows 7 and an extended kernel hasn't been developed yet.
Essential Utilities[edit]
- 7+ Taskbar Tweaker Customize Taskbar. Works on Windows 7, 8, 10 (even on Windows 11, if re-activating the Windows 10-Taskbar). Provides Options for example to get back the original context menus; disable grouping of programs (instead: chronological ordering per the program start times); drag and drop; change volume with the mouse wheel hovering over the taskbar, etc. etc. VERY RECOMMENDED
- ClassicShell Works on Windows 7, 8, and earlier versions of Windows 10. Highly customizable start menu instead of the builtin one. For newer Windows versions, look at the open source successor Open-Shell. Forum post from Dec2017 about discontinuation
- Python 3.9 Support A custom DLL pulled from the Wine project, meant to restore Python 3.9 functionality on Windows 7. This means that new versions of programs which depend on the newest versions of Python will keep on working on Windows 7. VERY RECOMMENDED
